The event will be sponsored and supported by the "Regional State of Sicily", as confirmed by the President Raffaele Lombardo, whom we truly thank for his high sensitivity shown in the occasion of such an important event for the institutions of a political community which should be sovereign and that only recently, and thanks to our efforts is showing its potential.
Letter to the President of the Regional State of Sicily, On. Raffaele Lombardo
Subject: May 15th 2009 Official day of Autonomy
As you know, on the 15th of May 2009, it will be the 63rd anniversary of the Special Autonomy Statute conquered by the citizens of Sicily, integral part, even though not fully applied, of the Italian Republic Constitution, as a real federative agreement and very important milestone for its high moral value, for the Sicilian citizens and its own government.
Our association has always worked in order to give value to such anniversary (www.anniversariostatutosiciliano.org), once civil semi holiday and today unfortunately either forgotten or celebrated only in closed theatres and therefore not open to the popular participation it would deserve.
Morgan Stanley warns of 'catastrophic event' as ECB fights Federal Reserve
The clash between the European Central Bank and the US Federal Reserve over monetary strategy is causing serious strains in the global financial system and could lead to a replay of Europe's exchange rate crisis in the 1990s, a team of bankers has warned.
"We see striking similarities between the transatlantic tensions that built up in the early 1990s and those that are accumulating again today. The outcome of the 1992 deadlock was a major currency crisis and a recession in Europe," said a report by Morgan Stanley's European experts.
Just as then, Washington has slashed rates to bail out the banks and prevent an economic hard-landing, while Frankfurt has stuck to its hawkish line - ignoring angry protests from politicians and squeals of pain from Europe's export industry.
For months, economic Pollyannas have looked beyond the dismal headlines and promised a quick recovery in the second half. They're dead wrong
The forgettable first half of 2008 is stumbling to a close. On Friday, the Labor Department reported that American employers axed 49,000 jobs in May, the fifth straight month of job losses—an event that signals a recession sure as the glittery ball dropping on Times Square augurs a New Year. The report, which inspired a 394-point decline in the Dow Jones Industrial Average Friday, was the latest in a run of bad news. Auto sales, the largest retailing sector in the U.S., were off 10.7 percent in May from the year before. And housing? Ugh. Nationwide, according to the Case-Shiller Index, home prices in the first quarter fell 14 percent.
Telecom Italia is one of the companies with the biggest debts with a share value that has crashed down to 1.391 euro, a forecast of zero growth in the next 2 years, the worst activity on the Stock Market in its sector. In 1999 Telecom, would have been able to buy Vodafone and perhaps even Telefonica, its probable future owner.
Bernabè, its current CEO, was sent away by D’Alema who made a gift of the country’s biggest company to the “captains courageous” using the mechanism of the leveraged buyout. It had a nice ring. It meant that Telecom was bought using debts. Colaninno and Gnutti didn’t have the money and they got the company into debt so as to be able to buy it. In this way the merchant banker D’Alema sent up in smoke the country’s greatest asset.
Senate Report: Bush Used Iraq Intel He Knew Was False
More than five years after the initial invasion of Iraq, the Senate Intelligence Committee has finally gone on the record: the Bush administration misused, and in some cases disregarded, intelligence which led the nation into war. The two final sections of a long-delayed and much anticipated "Phase II" report on the Bush administration's use of prewar intelligence, released on Thursday morning, accuse senior White House officials of repeatedly misrepresenting the threat posed by Iraq.
In addition, the report on Iraq war intelligence harshly criticizes a Pentagon office for executing "inappropriate, sensitive intelligence activities" without the proper knowledge of the State Department and other agencies.

United Kingdom, a union held together strongly and with difficulties, if it’s true, like it’s true that last January 16th, the celebrations for the union went through in silence, no fireworks, neither drinking together at the pubs, especially the ones in Edinburgh where the flag of independence flies, which a victory of a nationalist party has taken out of the inner and out of each Scottish hearth.
First of all Sean Connery, former 007 who has required and received honors from the Queen and then has completely devoted them to the cause he believes in: the independence of his country.
